Valentine’s Day couples workout routine

Maybe you were planning on only working up a sweat between the sheets this Valentine’s Day – but we say, what better place than the gym to bond with your partner and celebrate the strength of your relationship? Get a great workout routine you can do with your loved one this Valentine’s Day from TrainAway.

Valentine’s Day is the ultimate celebration of romance and cherishing your relationship with your partner. It’s an excellent opportunity to do something a little different from your standard workout routine by doing something fun and intimate (but not too intimate – gyms are public places, after all) with your partner. We’ve come up with a quick and intense workout sure to get your heart racing both individually and together.

Give this circuit a try with your partner:

Straight armed plank with shoulder tap (30 sec)

Both in straight-armed plank. facing each other. Continuously alternate tapping each other on the shoulder. Repeat for 30 seconds.

Back-to-back squat (30 sec)

Stand back-to-back with arms locked; squat simultaneously. Squatting back-to-back will encourage you to pay attention to your form – keep your chest up to ensure your backs stay together as much as possible throughout the squat movement! Repeat for 30 seconds.

Skate jumps + plank (2×30 sec)

One partner holds a plank for 30 seconds while the other does skate jumps over them. Switch and repeat.

Partner rows (2×30 sec)

One partner lays on their back while the other stands over them with their legs on either side of the laying partner’s torso. Grip each other’s forearms. The person laying down performs a row movement, raising their upper body off the ground. Repeat for 30 seconds, then switch and repeat.

Leg spreads + squat jumps (2×30 sec)

One partner lays on the floor with legs outstretched and hip-distance apart. The other person stands on one side of the laying-down partner’s feet. The person laying down raises their legs a hand’s length off the ground and performs in-and-out leg spreads (spreads their legs apart and then brings them back together in a controlled motion). Simultaneously, the other person does squat jumps over the laying partner’s legs. Repeat for 30 seconds, then switch and repeat. (Some coordination required – exercise caution!)

No Valentine’s this year? No judgment from us – sometimes all that time spent at the gym working on your #fitnessgoals can get in the way of your #relationshipgoals. You can still do this workout routine even if you’re hitting the gym with a platonic friend – Valentine’s Day is about celebrating ALL our loved ones and cherished relationships.

But if you’ve got a gym partner of the romantic variety this year, here’s an extra exercise to tack on to the end of this circuit and celebrate making it to the end:

Kiss plank (30 sec)

It’s what it sounds like – face each other while holding a plank for 30 seconds. Raise your heads so you can kiss!

After 3 rounds of this fun and energy-boosting workout you’ll be ready to enjoy a romantic dinner guilt-free – go ahead, order that chocolate cake.

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at TrainAway! ♥
